Immediate Family

Sally Mann's 1992 series 'Immediate Family' caused an uproar in America when it was released. Through the book documenting her three children (some naked) she was accused of child pornography. The controversy seemed to blow over quite quickly, not least when Time Magazine named her America's best photographer in 2001. I am having a moment of love for Sally, and I think her children look cool. What do you reckon?

Fellow Londoners can see Sally's exhibitions 'The Family and the Land' at the Photographer's Gallery in Soho between 18th June and 18th September. See you there!

I can completely understand why people would feel uncomfortable looking at these, and I might even agree except for photos like the last shot-- so beautiful. Such a great portrayal of siblings and childhood.
