Tiger Lily & Tiny Teeth

Larkin Grimm - Parplar (thanks kindred)

I hardly ever look at Flickr, I don't have one and it confuses me. I hate having to trawl through millions of mediocre photographs by random people. Sometimes I accidentally stumble across a gem, though. This little English girl makes the most average things appear magical, something I have neither the eye nor the patience (nor the camera) to carry out. She continues to create fairytales over at the unicorn diaries. (her post on A Little Princess - the film that always cheers me up no matter what is happening - won me over immediately).

PJ Harvey

I have a feeling that I've linked to this song before, but probably when I averaged two readers a day, so here it is again. I know that White Chalk was released last year, but it's something I like to return to a lot, especially now that the trees are bare and everything is covered in frost. PJ Harvey has transformed from a rock diva to a puff sleeved, wailing recluse (I mean this in the best possible way.) Contrast the song above, from her 2007 album, to the video below, from 2000's 'Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea.' I much prefer her reinvention to, say, Madonna's- a female who evidently believes the passing sands of time give her the right to reveal more and more of her grisly pubic bone. Not that I would ever ask beautiful Polly Jean to cover up... I look forward to her next incarnation.

Daily Style: Dressing Like a Christmas Gift

Yoshitomo Nara

PJ Harvey - The Devil

I use this blog to talk a lot of crap about certain things I enjoy looking at during any given week. It's usually just photos or clothes that I've stumbled across and the lag between finding something of interest and posting it is very short. The opposite is true of Yoshitomo Nara, who has been one of my absolute favourites for as long as I can remember. I've avoided writing about him until now because there is a frustrating dearth of information about him online- he doesn't have his own website, and all of the unwelcoming, auction-house pages I do find tout out the same information, his age (49), where he studied art (Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music) and how successful he is (a cult star in Japan, he has also shown worldwide in over 40 solo exhibitions). Then follows a set of annoyingly small, low-quality previews of his work. I finally decided that I had to do him justice when I rediscovered this clock, featuring a different Nara illustration for each hour and minute, which I have wanted for so long but has always been slightly prohibitive price-wise. Here are some of my favourite drawings and sculptures. I am Princess Snooze.
